On 25 July 2017 New Vision Homes received an Occupational Therapist (OT) report from Surrey County Council’s Children with Disabilities Team regarding an 11 year old boy living with his grandmother and guardian in a Woking Borough Council property in Horsell.
The young lad suffers from complex health and physical needs and is fully dependant on his family and the support of carers.
The OT report highlighted the need for a wheelchair accessible extension to the two bedroom house to accommodate a ground floor bedroom, wet floor shower room and level access to the garden which would help with the current restrictions of the home and provide long term assistance for future care and quality of life. A new kitchen was also included in the scope of works.
After various site visits to the mid terrace house involving the family, their OT, NVH and RDJW Architects, agreed designs were drawn up and an application submitted for planning consent.
Planning approval was granted on 13 December 2017 for a single storey rear extension of non-traditional timber framework and clad construction suitable for the restricted space available.
In consultation with the family, who had to consider the impact of the works on their grandson and to organise temporary respite care, the project commenced on 30 April 2018 with AYM Services Ltd. as appointed contractor.
Successful completion was achieved on 17 August 2018.
